Having access to this sort of information can help with optimising your site, and marketing efforts. Google Analytics is a really powerful tool, but getting it working on your site can be tricky.

Installing Google Analytics is not complicated. In this video tutorial, I’ll show you how to install Google Analytics 4 on your website. The tutorial covers everything you need to know, from creating an account to installing Google Analytics tracking code on your site. It shows you how to install GA4 on a WordPress site and an HTML website.

Installing Google Analytics on WordPress

Here’s a very brief summary of how to install Google Analytics 4 on a WordPress powered website.

Step 1 Sign Up with Google Analytics: Create a Google Analytics account if you don’t already have one. Sign in at the Google Analytics website using a Google account.

Step 2: Set Up Your Google Analytics Account: After signing up, set up your Google Analytics account by entering details like account name, property name, location, time zone, and currency. Then, fill in your business information and select the desired Google Analytics features.

Step 3: Set Up Your Data Stream: Choose ‘Web’ as your stream type and enter your website URL. Then, name your stream and click ‘Create Stream’.

Step 4: Install Google Site Kit Plugin on WordPress: Log in to your WordPress dashboard and go to Plugins > Add New. Search for ‘Site Kit by Google‘, install, and activate the plugin.

Step 5: Set Up Site Kit: After activating Site Kit, start the setup process and sign in with the Google Account you used for Google Analytics. Grant necessary permissions for Site Kit to access your website data.

Step 6: Connect to Google Analytics: In Site Kit, connect to Google Analytics by clicking ‘Connect Service’ under Analytics, and then configure your analytics details.

Installing Google Analytics in HTML

To install Google Analytics in an HTML website, first follow steps 1, 2, and 3 from above. They’re the same regardless of which platform you want to use. Then copy your complete Google Analytics tracking code, it should look something like this:

Take this code, and paste it into each individual HTML page for your website. You’ll need to paste it immediately after the opening <head> tag.

Once you’ve done that, upload your updated pages to your sites server, and you’ll be good to go.
